Pray for our next G-G – David Johnston

by Richard Long,

It’s official.  David Lloyd Johnston will become our new Governor-General on Oct. 1, 2010.  At 69 he will leave behind the presidency of the University of Waterloo and make Rideau Hall his new home along with his wife Sharon.  They have 5 daughters.

Mr. Johnson is fully bilingual and a lawyer by training and specialty.  He has a strong track record of being non-partisan, but he is also an expert on constituitional law which will help as he deals with minority government situations.

Let’s start praying for our next Governor General as he makes the transition in handing over his current responsibilities, and prepares for becoming a very public figure.  We know he will be under more public scrutiny, but also he will feel the spiritual pressure of that office almost immediately.
