By Jeremiah Smith
“For whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest…” (Heb. 4:10-11)
Resting is not my natural state. In fact there are times when rest seems extremely elusive. There’s always something to do, people to see, work to be done. This is especially true when you live in a setting such as NHOP where there’s a constant flurry of activity. For those who think that the National House of Prayer is akin to a silent, peaceful place of prayer, the exact opposite is usually the case (except the prayer part… there’s lots of that).
It’s also the case that were constantly working towards building up this ministry; whether it’s financial support, speaking engagements, making connections in Government, or just the upkeep of the house. I will admit that sometimes it can feel as if we’re the ones who are working very, very hard. Yet in the midst of everything I know that we must remember that it is God who is in control. This is His ministry and at the end of the day when we’ve worked hard we have to rest in knowing that only God can achieve what we cannot.
For me personally I have to strive to enter Gods rest. I have to work at giving up, and battle so that I can surrender.
P.S – As I write, Richard and Terry Long are on a well deserved two week vacation! If anybody deserves to enter a little rest it is them!
