Embracing the Winter

ncc_winterludeby Richard Long,

Last night many of our team from NHOP joined with thousands of Ottawans to kick off the start of “Winterlude”.  There was a sound and light show, an outdoor concert with Colin James, the newly created ice sculptures in Confederation Park and of course BeaverTails on the Rideau Skateway. (Also known as the Rideau Canal when the water thaws out.)

One of the things I have grown to admire about people who live in this city is the way they have decided that “if you can’t beat it, join it”.  So rather than hunker down and bemoan the cold and the snow, they head outdoors to make the most of the season.  Winterlude is the two week festival that highlights all the best of being the second-coldest capital in the world. (Apparently Mongolia has a more frigid government town.)
