November 3, 2009

by Richard Long

(Following on with yesterday’s theme, let’ s pray for the Queen Charlotte Islands and also the city of Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory today, that the Lord would bring a revelation of his son to them in this special season.)

Today I want to encourage your hearts with an amazing answer to prayer.  This story was publicized on The Drudge Report (possibly the most popular website on the whole internet) yesterday.  That’s getting the word out!

Most of you know that today is the last day of the Forty Days for Life campaign, so this is one of the best stories of answered prayer coming out of that effort.

Here’s the opening paragraphs from the Lifesite News website.

“By Kathleen Gilbert

BRYAN, Texas, November 2, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The director of the Texas Planned Parenthood abortion mill where the 40 Days for Life campaign began has resigned, saying she experienced a conversion after watching an ultrasound video of a child being killed by abortion.

“I just thought I can’t do this anymore, and it was just like a flash that hit me and I thought that’s it,” said Abby Johnson in an interview with local news network KBTX 3.”

Lia’s Challenge

May 15, 2009

by Richard Long,

Amidst many speeches from our politicians, the best speech yesterday at the March for Life came from a 12 year old student from Toronto named Lia.  She got a thunderous ovation.

Thanks to technology you can watch it via YouTube.  It has already been watched by over 600,000 people.

Today all of us at the National House of Prayer took part in the National March for Life:  Exodus 2009 – A Future Without Abortion event happening here in Ottawa.    We joined ten thousand people who gathered on the Hill today from 12.00- 3.00 pm to take a positive stand for the sanctity of life.   Before that,  at 10.00 am, we gathered at St. George’s Anglican Church, where our director Rob Parker led an interdenominational prayer service.

It was very encouraging to see all the young people who showed up again this year on Parliament Hill.  There were also many M.P.s who spoke about a new resurgence of energy and enthusiasm as the next generation is picking up the torch.

Here was a quote from the official website:

“The National March for Life has been taking place on Parliament Hill since 1998.  The March has been steadily growing in numbers ever since it’s inception, reaching a high last year of 8,000 people.  This year’s march is entitled, “Exodus 2009″ in remembrance of the last 40 years of abortion in this country.  With your prayers and participation, this year’s march can be the most dramatic ever.”

The silver lining in the Morgantaler cloud.

July 6, 2008

by Richard Long,

Many of us where in consternation as we prayed last weekend about the rumour that the Order of Canada was about to be given to Dr. Henry Morgantaler.  The morning papers on July 2nd confirmed our fears.  It’s been a week of constant editorials, opinion articles and political spin as we have read the newspapers.

From where I sit, in the big picture of what I think God is doing in answer to our prayers, this is good.  I’m not saying its good that our nation has sunk so low that we would honour the culture of death.  But, the elephant in the room is being noticed again.  Despite the repeated statement by polilticians that the debate about abortion is over, clearly it is not.  As Christians we need to continue to keep this life and death issue before the nation.  It is a new window that has been opened up for us.  Backroom manipulation is being exposed as are the hearts of many.

One writer who has made a great case this weekend is a regular favorite of mine.  David Warren who writes in the Ottawa Citizen has written two great articles yesterday and today.  They give some interesting insight into what was happening in the back rooms a week ago when this controversy began to break.  If you would like to check them out here’s the link.  Be encouraged.  Spread the word.

Let’s keep praying and believing for a miraculous turnaround toward LIFE in our nation.
