One Thing Conference

December 29, 2009

by Richard Long,

They estimate that there are about 20,000 young adults attending the “One Thing” Conference in Kansas City this week.  Anyone following the IHOP movement will know that this year is expected to be an extraordinary year because of the “revival” that broke out in late November at the IHOP School of Ministry.

The good news is that you can watch the conference from your own computer.  Catch it live or watch the archived footage.

Here’s the link to the video feed.

Unite Canada: 24-7-365-2010 up and running!

December 26, 2009

by Richard Long,

The National House of Prayer is very honoured to be partnering with other prayer ministries across Canada in 2010 to make it a year of unprecedented prayer.

The Unite Canada: 24-7-365-2010 website is now up and running.

Here’s the opening lines from the vision statement.

The Vision

After gathering with about twenty ministries as part of a national prayer network (Camp Stillwood, BC. Sept 2009) we all sensed the importance of uniting and working together to fuel and inspire more prayer in our nation. An idea birthed out of our meeting was to mobilize a year of non-stop prayer that travels through churches/communities in cities across Canada.

Our hope and dream is to unite Canada in prayer right across the nation, including all generations, denominations, cultures, cities and ministries. Different denominations have completed a year of prayer for their nation (Salvation Army in the UK) and Canadian cities have united in prayer (7 churches in Regina for 40 days)… But we want to go beyond and unite generations, denominations, people groups and ministries in every city to PRAY…. like never before, 24-7-365!

2010: A Year of Prayer

December 18, 2009

by Richard Long,

The new year is only two weeks away. (Yes, I know that Christmas is only one week from today)  Many national prayer movements are joining together to make 2010 a special year of prayer.

One of those initiatives is called Unite Canada:24-7-365-2010.  It’s aim is to mobilize Canadians to pray for every hour of the next year.  No small goal.  You’ll be hearing much more about it on this blog and from many directions.

The 24-7 Prayer movement carried an article about it on their international website today written by Daria Tomiuk.

“Canada has been given some great opportunities for 2010, such as hosting the winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC in February and the G8 Summit in Huntsville, ON in June. During such a strategic time and after ten years of 24-7 Prayer activity in our nation, we think it’s time to come together.

Our hope and dream is to unite Canada in prayer right across the nation, including all generations, denominations, cultures, cities and ministries.  Each church or community can sign on to pray 24-7 for a period of time picking up the baton from the church before and passing it on to the believers following them.”

Pray for Vancouver and the Olympic effort

December 17, 2009

by Richard Long,

As a follow up to yesterday’s blog and the NHOP newsletter that went out to a few thousand intercessors across Canada …

We are creating a Vancouver Olympic Prayer Network to begin targeted prayers for this opportunity.  Even now, we are being sent critical prayer requests for the preparations for the outreach efforts of More Than Gold.

Our plan is to send weekly and then daily prayer bulletins as we get closer to the Games.

If you would like to receive this special Vancouver Olympic Prayer Bulletin please send me a note at richard@nhop.ca.  You will then be added to our email distribution list and begin receiving prayer information.

  Thanks for your interest!

Prayer Central

December 4, 2009

by Richard Long,

In our various trips around the World Wide Web we run across a myriad of interesting resources.  The Holy Spirit is inspiring many people to harness the power of the internet for the purposes of the Kingdom.

Prayer Central is a website hosted in India, that serves a global community.  You can pray for all kinds of targets, including the Mission in Afghanistan, or missions work in different parts of Asia, or even the nation of Israel.  As well there are lots of prayer teaching, inspirational articles, and a daily devotional.

Check out Prayer Central for more information.

Daywatch- Intercession for the New Day

December 1, 2009

by Richard Long,

Previously we have linked to the European prayer effort, formerly known as Target Europe and now under the name “Daywatch”.  Our friends Roger and Sue Mitchell lead this prayer association.  Each month they do some writing about prayer issues for folks who are praying into the 40 nations of Europe.

I guarantee they will make you think!

Here’s the introduction to the November “Daywatch” written by Roger Mitchell as he talks about the role of the Holy Spirit in leading our prayers in the new season that we live in.

“This month we continue the question of what the Holy Spirit is for by asking the question to the first four chapters of Luke’s gospel. Probably we will continue to follow him via Luke’s suggested directions in months to come. This is important for our prayers and mindset change in the context of being repositioned in the world for two reasons at least. The first is that the church, or what from now on I will be referring to as the ecclesia, has tended in its history to get separated from Jesus whose body it is supposed to be. The mindset change and repositioning that we are experiencing as God’s people appears to be the result of three generations of Holy Spirit visitation aimed at getting Jesus’ ecclesia back where he wants it. So the question relates to the purpose of those visitations and the changes that seem to have been the result. Secondly, there is an increasing sense that the Holy Spirit is way ahead of us, which is why so many are no longer finding him present in meetings and worship events which he seems less and less keen on. So we need to know where he is likely to be so that we can find him there.”

Read Roger’s insights into the role of the Holy Spirit based on Luke 1-4 here.

Unite Canada: 24-7-365-2010

November 19, 2009

by Richard Long,

This is the first time you will be hearing about a special prayer initiative in 2010.  It won’t be the last, I promise.

As 20 national prayer leaders met in September of 2009 to seek the Lord for the season ahead, one of the major discernments was that we needed to make 2010 a Year of Prayer for Canada.

Coming out of that conviction was the desire to see every hour of the year covered in prayer.  Daria Tomiuk from 24-7 Prayer Canada is the best positioned to enable this to happen, so we have asked her, as other prayer leaders, to take the lead in getting this organized.   Soon there will be a dedicated website for this, where churches, cities and prayer networks can sign up to take a day or a week in the overall effort.

We will give you the heads up as soon as the link comes available.

In the meantime please pray for Daria as she works on this.  We are also working to raise $20,000 to help pay some salary for her and to create the website and other literature.

Your prayers and dollars would be welcome!  Donations can be made online at 24-7 Prayer Canada.

QP

November 17, 2009

by Richard Long,

Around the National House of Prayer we schedule the middle part of our day around QP.  QP is Question Period.  We try to have some of our team (and often the visiting prayer teams) up in the Gallery from 2 – 3 every Monday to Thursday.  The M.P.s now expect to see us there.

Today was a very encouraging day in this regard.  Standing in line with us waiting to go up to QP was our visiting team from TACF (Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship), a day team from DOC (The Dominion Outreach Centre here in Ottawa) and also the Josiah Team members who are here in Ottawa with the My Canada effort.

Once we were up in the Gallery I also saw that Mel and Susan Finlay from NAP (Nation at Prayer) were in attendance as were Gerry Sherman and his team mate Darlene from The Christian Embassy.

We had them surrounded in prayer today!

My Canada Reception on Parliament Hill

November 16, 2009

by Richard Long,

We had a wonderful time in the Grand Ballroom on Parliament Hill tonight.  Our team was invited to join with the Josiah Team from My Canada and other friends to a reception to honour M.P.s and Senators, as well as their staff.

Faytene Kryskow and her team did a wonderful job of sharing their hearts and creating an event of impact.  The highlight of the night was their special “Hero” award to M.P. Joy Smith who championed Bill 268 against human trafficking.  Many other Parliamentarians dropped by to have some great food (thanks to Ruth Sowerby and her team) and to meet young adults from all across the nation.

Keep praying for the My Canada team as they meet 67 M.P.s and Senators over 5 days this week, that they will leave a sweet fragrance of the Lord in the lives of everyone they meet, and that the impression of young Canadians who have strong convictions about righteousness would remain for a long time in their hearts and minds.

You can follow the Twitter updates online at the My Canada website.

Praying in the Streets of Halifax

November 10, 2009

prayer-tent

by Richard Long,

Here’s a great report from a bunch of folks in Halifax who are taking prayer to the people.

From 24-7 Prayer Canada

Church amongst the People

Jesus got downright venomous with religious leaders who put obstacles between people and God.  I believe that He would be cheering on loudest those who make a point of connecting people on the outside with Him.

“What are you doing out here?”

Late Saturday nights in Halifax, Nova Scotia now sits a corporate type tent in the middle of the city’s public square with a few beach chairs, some lights and a sign that says “How can we pray for you?”  The time and place are strategic as the city is well known for abundant night life, with partiers starting at the bottom of the hill, on the harbour, working their way up the hill, from bar to bar, as the evening progresses.  Parade Square sits in the middle of the progression, within earshot of one of the most notorious of the bars.  It is nicknamed the Liquordome.  No kidding.

My house shall be called a house of prayer

There at the tent are a team of volunteers.  Not a big team, mind you,…  … but a handful of volunteers ready and willing to pray for matters trivial and weighty.  Each prayer made at the request of a passerby includes not only the matter at hand, but also a petition that God would reveal Himself to the person in their life and through the situation.  Their act of requesting prayer taken and offered as an invitation for God to work in their life.
