I have been awestruck of late at how fast events are taking place in the Middle East. Entire nations brought into massive upheaval and radical change by a young generation yearning for freedom and escape from oppression.
You can’t watch all that is going on and not think, “God is up to something.” There will be a massive opportunity in these countries that previously resisted the gospel, or outlawed it altogether, to hear the message without fear of persecution. My prayer is that out of all this upheaval and bloodshed, God would bring about a move of His Spirit and salvation to the Arab people.
It has been very interesting to see how the role of social networking has played an integral part in the events overseas. In the past foreign countries had large cultural divides at times from one another, but it seems as though the language of a new generation is now a global language crossing the cultural divide and bringing a commonality between peoples. It brings to mind the story of the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11:6: ”The Lord said, If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing will be impossible for them.” This scripture definitely speaks of the power of unity and is true today as this one language of technological communication has helped make changes in world governments. I believe that as we pray for the Middle East, strategic prayer needs to go into praying for those that have begun to use social media as an important outlet to bring the message of Jesus in this new language.
