Take the High Road

April 30, 2008

by Wendy Turpin

Just before Question Period on April 28th, Ken Epp the MP who brought forward the Private Member’s proposed bill, Unborn Victim’s of Crime Act, stood and made the following statement: Mr. Speaker, I am really sad that the debate on my private member’s bill, Bill C-484, has been so focused lately on misrepresentation of the facts. This is a totally pro-choice bill in the true meaning of that phrase. . .Read More Here

Later during Question Period Johanne Deschamps, a BQ member, stood and queried the government on Bill C-484 and stated that: the National Assembly of Quebec, women’s groups and the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec are speaking out against Bill C-484 and more than 25,000 people have signed the petition on the specialists’ web site calling for the rejection of this bill that could reopen the debate on the recriminalization of abortion. . .Read More Here

As much as we would like the critics of this bill to go away, it seems to be getting some negative attention in Parliament as well as in the press.  It will be very hard for people who are pro-abortion to accept the concept of Bill C-484, even though the so-called right to abort is not being infringed upon with it, because it confronts the issue of when life begins.  If the bill is passed then the precedent will be set that Parliament agrees that a fetus is a person with full rights of protection and this has pro-abortion groups worried.   As Christians, we need to take the high road and understand the spirit behind this fear mongering and pray that those who are against it would have the revelation that a fetus is truly more than a lump of flesh (another appendage within the body of a woman) and a living human being that deserves the right to be protected.

There are some practical things we can do, if we support the passage of this bill: 1) Keep praying until it is passed.  2) Faytene Kryskow of 4MyCanada has called for a national fast. You can check out the details and the reasons for the fast at her website .  3) Go to the Ken Epp website and sign the petition for the passage of the bill.  4)  Spread the word amongst your friends about the seriousness of this bill and get them to sign the petition.  5)  Contact your member of parliament and let them know how you feel.  When writing, handwritten letters get a lot more attention so there are some great postcards at the 4MyCanada website.  Just download and print them off  then send them to your MP.

Report on weekend in Elliot Lake

April 29, 2008

Elliot Lake weekendby Richard Long,

By last Saturday night in Elliot Lake there were 75 folks gathering at the Grace Christian Centre to worship together and grow in prayer.  Over the weekend we did 9 sessions from our School of Prayer series.  Thanks to pastors Glenn & Alice Forest, we were able to video tape all of these sessions.  (Thanks also to Stephen & Bev Lynne for all their work on the technical side.)

We were really encouraged by the healthy Church from different denominations that we met in this northern community.  They seem ready to respond to a major move of the Holy Spirit.  Keep praying for them as Watchmen for the Nations plans a Gathering there in late May.

Spiritual Warfare, Jesus style – Eddie Smith

April 28, 2008

Spiritual Warfare is a controversial subject.  I love how Eddie Smith makes it so simple.  This article is from this week’s installment of Eddie and Alice Smith’s “Insight”.  You can subscribe to it by going to www.usprayercenter.org

Jesus Engages in Spiritual Warfare Prayer
By Eddie Smith

Then the Lord said, “Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has demanded to have you apostles for himself. He wants to separate you from me as a farmer separates wheat from husks. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. So when you recover, strengthen the other disciples.” (Luke 22:31-32, GW).

Almost 2,000 years after Jesus said these words to Simon Peter, some Christians continue to debate the validity of spiritual warfare prayer.

However, I suspect that those who argue against spiritual warfare prayer argue less with Scripture and more with some of our models and methods. They would say, “Perhaps spiritual warfare prayer is valid, but what that group is doing can’t possibly be it!” And, in some cases, they may be correct.

There are some things about these two verses that I find particularly interesting.

First, notice that Jesus is so in touch with heaven (because of His own intimate prayer life) that He knew what Satan had demanded of the Father.

Remember, Jesus was completely dependent upon the Father (see John 5:19). Without his daily “military intelligence report” from heaven, Jesus was helpless. He admitted that He could do nothing. So, whatever true spiritual warfare prayer is, it’s absolutely heaven-dependent. When it comes to spiritual warfare, what Satan is doing today is not be nearly as important as what God is doing!

Second, look at what Satan really wanted. We know that Satan’s job description is “to steal, to kill, and to destroy” (see John 10:10). Jesus said that Satan wanted to sift Peter (and the other disciples) like a farmer separates the wheat from the husks. But look what Satan was actually after. He wanted to separate the Apostles from Jesus! His war strategy was “divide and conquer.”

Third, Jesus said, “But…I have prayed for you.” No doubt Peter breathed a big sigh of relief at this point. He must have thought to himself, What a relief. For a minute there it sounded like I was going to be sifted, whatever that means.

If so, his relief was short lived, for Jesus continued, “I have prayed that your faith won’t fail you during the sifting.” What? “During the sifting!?” “Why didn’t you pray that I wouldn’t be sifted!?”

Again, Christ’s praying wasn’t based on Satan’s agenda. His praying was based on God’s agenda. And at the time, God was developing Apostles. And Apostles, like you and me, are forged in the fiery furnace of affliction. At times, God will even allow the enemy to do things, in order to accomplish His purposes.

Finally, you will see that Jesus had no doubt about Peter’s ultimate victory. Why would He? After all, He had prayed in faith for Peter’s faith not to fail. So, he confidently says, “So when (not if) you recover, strengthen the other disciples!”

What are you facing today? What is God saying and doing concerning it? Discover that, and pray accordingly!

A Small (But Very Big) Prayer

April 27, 2008

by Wendy Turpin

Lord, Where there is faith, there is a voice calling, keep walking, you’re not alone in this world. Where there is faith, there is a peace like a child sleeping, hope everlasting in He who is able to bear every burden, to heal every hurt in my heart. It is a wonderful, powerful place, where there is faith! So, Lord, send revival to Canada! (From the song by 4Him, Where There is Faith).

National School of Intercession – Fredericton

April 26, 2008

by Richard Long

If you get our email newsletter you should have received the information about our next major training session in the Maritimes.  This is the same school we have already run in Quebec City in January this year and in Calgary and Ottawa in last year.  We work together with our good friend, Sara Maynard from Cityscape Prayer Ministries in Vancouver on this full scale school.

All the details about the Fredericton school are on our website, including the downloadable poster, full registration information and the application form.

On the road in Elliot Lake

April 25, 2008

by Richard Long,

This weekend’s roadtrip has us in a community of 13,000 north of Lake Huron.  Elliot Lake is a former uranium mining town that has reinvented itself as as seniors retirement city.  It’s located between Sudbury and Sault St. Marie.  Rob, myself, Iain Wilson and an Ottawa intercessor Ann Thombs travelled for 9 hours to get here yesterday.  Thinking back over the last few months we realize that the Lord has had us focus on northern Ontario and northwestern Quebec.  We’ve done our School of Prayer in Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Dryden and now Elliot Lake, Ontario and last weekend in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec.  God is targeting this area and raising up an army of intercessors in this area.

Here in Elliott Lake we are being hosted by Pastors Glen and Alice Forest of Grace Christian Centre.  People are attending this school from different churches in this city and from surrounding areas like Espanola, Bruce Mines and even “the Soo”.  Over 50 leaders and intercessors are here eager to learn together.  Please pray for them that there will be much that they will receive for their region.

Praying for your Children …

April 23, 2008

by Richard Long,

Here’s a great idea from our good friend Lorne Silverstein out in Edmonton.

He writes …

As part of the  Edmonton, Alberta committee for Global Day of Prayer  we felt prompted by the Lord to put together a new website  on prayer for the salvation of children.  Called ‘The Prayers of a Million Mothers”  it connects with Mother’s Day, May 11 which is the same day as Pentecost Sunday this year and the Global Day of Prayer.

The purpose of this website “The Prayers of a Million Mothers” is to encourage mothers (and fathers) to keep offering prayers for their children especially in the areas of salvation and to network them together as the Lord would lead. Our desire is to help keep the fires of prayer burning on the altar for our children and that we “should always pray and not give up” (Luke 18:1). By so doing, we will be adding our prayers in the power of agreement to the prayers of millions of mothers who have cried out and are crying out for the salvation of their children.( It is easy to add children and prayers to this website) .The web address is www.MillionMothers.com .

If you feel led, we would appreciate if you could help promote this website and pass it along to some of your contacts.

Blessings

Lorne Silverstein

Prayerwalking

April 22, 2008

by Richard Long

It is no surprise to anyone who has spend some time with us at NHOP to learn that we love to “prayerwalk”.  After all our director, Rob Parker walked from Calgary to Ottawa back in 2000, praying all along the way.  So we like to have people walk from our centre over to Parliamnet Hill, praying as they go.

The simplest definition of prayerwalking comes from the book by the same name by Steve Hawthorne and Graham Kendrick.  “Prayerwalking is praying onsite with insight.”  They go on to write, “Prayerwalking is on-site prayer.  On-site praying is simply praying in the very places where you expect your prayers to be answered.  Walking is the best way to place yourself on-site…”

If you want to find lots more resources you can go to Steve Hawthorne’s ministry website http://www.waymakers.org/index.php?p=prayerwalking.

Meanwhile … let’s get out there and prayerwalk our nation.

House of Prayer Edmonton (HoPE)

April 21, 2008

by Richard Long

The Lord is raising up Houses of Prayer right across the land.  On our website we have a “Links” page where we are seeking to list the HoP’s that we know in Canada.  Right now it is still lacking a full slate of existing ministries.

One House of Prayer that you will want to check out is the one happening in Alberta’s capital – Edmonton.  You can find it at www.hopedmonton.ca.  If you live in that area, you will be able to find out the times that you can connect, who the leaders are, and some of the special events like the prayer meeting that goes on in the West Edmonton Mall at the Marketplace Chapel.

If you know of a House of Prayer in Canada that we still need to link to, then please drop us a line.

Getting a Fire Started

April 20, 2008

by Wendy Turpin

As a prayer missionary for Canada, the Lord has impressed upon me not only to pray for our government and its leaders, but to also pray that Canada’s church would be revived once and for all time.

If Canada is to walk in its prophetic destiny of bringing healing to the nations, then Canada, as a nation, needs to be healed first!  And healing will only result when there is an honest to goodness move of the Holy Spirit in this nation!  Because of this, the Lord has placed in me a — so far — unsatiated hunger for a day where the Holy Spirit will be moving so powerfully in this nation that not only would millions be saved and set free, but that we would see the dead raised and creative miracles would be the norm.  I have the faith to believe that this is not an impossible dream!  And so, I pray.

It`s on my heart today to rally the troops and inspire you, the reader, to pray for revival in this nation! So go grab a coffee (or tea) and take a few minutes and watch this video called The Revival Hymn. Not only will it challenge you, but I know it will change you too! Remember the words of William Booth when he said: God loves with a great love the man whose heart is bursting with a passion for the IMPOSSIBLE.
